“Bisexuality and Healthcare”This study, published in 2021, uses data from previous studies to focus on bisexuals and the ways in which poor health issues manifest (notably in trouble falling asleep and trouble staying asleep). The study focuses on young adults, and attempts to single out the bisexual experience and results from the LGBTQ umbrella.
“Minority Stress and Mechanisms of Risk for Depression and Suicidal Ideation Among Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Youth”This study, published in 2015, is comprised of interviews with almost 900 teenager who identify as LGB, with an attempt to understand how minority stressors affect their mental health. The researchers concluded that bisexuals experience depression and suicidal ideation most often due to “burdensomeness” or coming out stress.
“Does It Get Better? A Longitudinal Analysis of Psychological Distress and Victimization in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning Youth”This study, published in 2015, follows over 200 LGBTQ teenagers over a period of 3.5 years. The researchers concluded that not only is more time needed to determine if it does “get better” for LGBTQ youth, early results show that without family or friend support, there is a higher risk of stress and depression.
